30 Days of Running for Movember – Better training and fitness goals…

A Run with Purpose

As I laced up my running shoes on the eve of my 33rd birthday, still riding the excitement of celebrating the Rugby World Cup finals, a deep sense of purpose washed over me. I wanted to do something that extended beyond my personal milestones.

The Reluctant Runner's Reflection

Running, I must admit, has never been my forte. It's not a passion of mine, nor do I find it particularly enjoyable. However, what I've always appreciated about it is the solace it offers. A chance to gather my thoughts, undisturbed.

Recalling the Impact of Movember

Contemplating the strong support network that surrounds me, I couldn't help but harken back to the days of Movember during lockdown. It was a time when conversations around men's health found their voice. The impact was profound.

Committing to 30 Runs, Fundraising and a 'Mo'

I decided to make myself publicly accountable, sharing my commitment on Instagram. I pledged to complete 30 runs, each covering a distance of 5 kilometres, throughout November. Simultaneously, I embraced the Movember tradition of growing the iconic 'Mo.'

When Life Gets in the Way of running every day

At first, I optimistically believed I could tackle running 5k every day. However, November had a different script for me. The month unfolded with a flurry of activities - birthday celebrations with friends, moving to a new home with my wife, and rigorous preparations for Hyrox at the end of the month. Each element required its own slice of time and energy.

The Revelation of Fitness Prioritisation

To stay true to my commitment, I had to be flexible. There were days when I needed to double or even triple my runs to make up for lost time. This experience was a stark reminder that when something is genuinely important, you'll carve out the time for it. In a world where we all have the same 24 hours, it's our choices that make us unique.

November unfolded with crystal-clear priorities. It was a month of growing that 'Mo,' completing those 30 runs, delivering a stellar performance in my final month of work before embarking on my honeymoon, and being the best version of myself in social gatherings. It was a month where sleep took a backseat, and any form of time-wasting was promptly jettisoned. Running became habitual.

Embracing Personal Responsibility

This journey reaffirmed a simple yet profound truth - if something truly matters to you, you must make it a priority. Whether your goal is to be a better friend, achieve your health ambitions, or accomplish any other resolutions, it all begins with embracing personal responsibility.

Your 2024, Own It

For anyone ready to take ownership of their journey in 2024, I'm here as a fellow traveller. Together, let's prioritise what truly matters and make every moment count.

In conclusion, my 30 days of running, growing the iconic 'Mo,' and re-evaluating priorities in November taught me the power of personal responsibility and seizing control of my time. It highlighted that when something truly matters, you'll find a way to make it a priority. As we step into 2024, let's all take ownership of our journeys, prioritising what truly matters, and making every moment count together.
